A healthy workforce is a productive workforce

Poor eating habits during your working day can be one of the major causes to your problems of fatigue, motivation and weight. The workplace is an ideal place to spread the message of healthy eating, especially if it gets you and your team to become more motivated.

With it being diabetes awareness day (month in America) why not promote healthier eating within your workplace?

A few things people don’t know about those who have the diabetes is that they don’t become diabetic from eating unhealthily. Approximately 80% of diabetics have inherited the disease or have developed the disease through conceiving children. Unfortunately, there are no means of early diagnosis, but today is all about promoting the awareness of people living with diabetes.

Getting your staff take part in a healthy eating regime, to show their support and acknowledgement to this awareness day may get them thinking of the health benefits of having a good balanced diet.

It is a proven fact that we consume at least a third of our daily calories whilst at work!

What we eat and drink affects not just our health but our performance at work. By having a well-balanced diet and cutting out the 4 cups of coffee for a glass of water, you’ll be able to get rid of those unwanted headaches, sluggish feelings and poor concentration levels.

By simply promoting good health amongst your workforce you will be creating a positive mindset to healthy eating.There are a number of significant benefits by having a healthy workforce.

You will see a massive increase in;

  • Productivity;
  • Business performance;
  • Staff morale;
  • Employee engagement.

You will also see the reduction in:

  • Accidents and work-related ill health;
  • Sick pay costs;
  • Insurance costs;
  • Pressure on employees covering for those who are absent.

Don’t worry you don’t have to start with drastic changes! The best way to start improving eating habits is where you get your lunch, may it be a sandwich shop, café, supermarket or work canteen, they will all usually have a healthier option. Start implementing the changes gradually for example put the full fat Coke back and select a smoothie or a diet alternative, switch the chocolate bar for a packet of nuts or a piece of fruit. This also applies to everyone who brings their own lunch, you select what goes into your lunchbox so implementing these switches will be easier for you.
